XM Radio: Understanding How Radio Waves are Generated
There are two types of devices in which it may be necessary to generate amplitude modulation. The first of these is, the amplitude modulation transmitter generates such high power that its prime requirement is efficiency, so quite complex means of amplitude modulation generation may be used. The other device is the amplitude modulation generator. Here the amplitude modulation is produced at such a low power level that the simplicity is a more important requirement than efficiency. Although the methods of generating amplitude modulation can be different but generating high power are always taken care of.
The Ins and Outs of Radio Receivers
Signal that has to be transmitted is impressed onto a carrier wave in any of the modulation methods, and it is then amplified and applied to the transmitting antenna. The modulated signal is radiated, propagated and collected by the receiving antenna .The signal at this point is generally quite weak, therefore the receiver must first amplify the received signals. Since the signal is quite likely to be complied by lots of other unwanted signals, probably at neighboring frequencies, it must be selected and the other rejected .Finally, since modulation took place in transmitter, the reverse process of this, demodulation, must be performed in the receiver to recover the original modulating voltages.
Radio Frequency Amplifiers
There are many similarities between radio frequency amplifiers and audio frequency amplifiers, but there are also many differences. Radio frequency amplifiers perform the same amplifying functions at radio frequencies as do audio frequency amplifiers at audio frequencies. Voltage and power amplifiers are used in both types of systems. But since the signal frequencies are very different, and radio frequency amplifiers require higher selectivity than audio frequency amplifiers, the radio frequency amplifiers normally make use of tuned circuits or selective filters to achieve the required selectivity.
Antennas for transmission or radio waves
To transmit radio waves we need Antennas. Although there are many different types of transmitting antennas available, the two principle categories are the half wave and quarter wave. Each has its own special characteristics.
