Why Dedicated Server Is Better Than Shared Server?

After doing business on the internet for some time, you might feel that you should set up your own web site. At the beginning, your requirement for such a site would be very minimal and you would set up your site on a shared server.
But after doing business for quite a long time, you may feel that your existing web site is not able to fulfill your complete requirement and your web site requires upgrading. Now, the question is whether you should migrate your web site to a dedicated server or not.
A few points are noted below, in favor of selecting a dedicated server to help you make proper decision in this matter.
Most dedicated servers are fully customized to meet all your requirements. You may choose the operating system, the programs to be run or the database to be used as per your own requirement.
These servers would be hosting your website and applications exclusively. Therefore, there will be no problem in running your application because of demands made on same resources by other sites or applications running on the same machine. This will lead to great improvement of the performance of the site.
Because you are the only owner of the server, there is less chance of security threats and virus attacks unless they are brought in by you.
Another advantage is that your server would be assigned with a single, unique IP address. In case of a shared server all the sites residing on the same machine are assigned with same IP address.
One of the biggest advantages of having a dedicated server is that it would be very easy to apply any upgrade to the system, may it be in terms of hardware or software.
Dedicated servers have another advantage of having the provision of a FTP backup account. Such an account would enable you to take mirror backup of the entire site.
For organizations handling huge amount of data, a dedicated server providing large space and band width is the best option. These servers also provide complete control on the entire network residing on that server. The cost of each service provided by the server is also quite low. These servers enable the clients to install software with greater flexibility and administrative options. All these advantages are due to the reason that client is not sharing the resources of the server with anybody.
We can think of two disadvantages of these dedicated servers.
Firstly, these servers would cost the users a lot of money. It may not be possible for a small enterprise to bear such a heavy cost. And secondly, skilled manpower is required to handle such a server efficiently.
Therefore, consider all these pros and cons and go ahead for a dedicated server for your site if your budget permits.
