There are many different services offered in two way radio communications. Each service has its own purpose. Among the basic two way communication services are Citizens band radio operators, Amateur radio, Aeronautical radio and the general mobile radio service. In the private land mobile radio services public safety radio, special emergency radio and industrial radio are included. The citizens band radio operates at specific Megahertz, amplitude modulated or single sideband using shared assigned channels. The Citizens radio service more commonly called citizens band is a public non commercial radio service available to the general population.
There are four classes of citizens band radio viz. Class A to Class D stations respectively.
Citizens band offers a convenient communication system that can be used at home, in a car, in a boat, or on an airplane, or even while walking or hiking. Specific ranges of frequencies are used for radio control of aircraft, model boats and garage door openers. A particular channel is set aside for emergency communications, such as after highway accidents.
In the ultra high frequency band a particular range of frequency has been authorized for citizens band voice and control signals.
Individual operators of citizens band equipment need not be licensed but the transmitting equipment is licensed through the manufactures authorization.
The citizens band operation requires the transmitter and the receiver\ to be on the same channel and operators generally use a code. This code with some modifications is also used by police and fire departments.
Amateur radio operator is a duly person interested in radio techniques with a personal aim and without financial interest. There are thousands of these operators in the world. These operators converse over distances limited only by the size of the earth and by the power of their stations.
The aeronautical Broadcasting Service disseminates information for the purpose of air navigation and communication. These services are provided by an extensive network of transmitting stations
