College students face increased financial challenges in the coming years, due to exploding tuition costs. Even public institutions, are raising fees a typical 5-15% every year. Students increasingly sacrifice studying time for work. Additionally, they are often tired from menial jobs off-campus. However, there’s a ray of hope in today’s cyber-economy. The familiarity college students have with computers and the internet qualify them for online work projects that can make a difference in their finances. Today, e-jobs abound, and often can be done on the student’s own schedule. As they can usually be done from any computer, there is no need to ‘commute’ to work. Some of the e-jobs that are available are: consumer-survey taking, reading emails for pay, virtual assisting, and writing reviews for websites. An exploding opportunity also exists for students to ‘monetize’ their writing. Easy-to-work programs like Google Adsense allow even small-timers to put money-generating ads on their websites. Even personal blogs can generate advertising revenue with proper attention. As students often have editing and skills, too, they are qualified to put together blogs and websites without doing any writing at all! A massive reservoir of articles and research is available on the internet free of charge. So are are free web platforms such as blogs. All anyone needs to do is find a niche others want to read about and publish a simple newsletter or blog with money-generating advertising. So now, at little or no expense, an industrious student can be a publisher working in a cool library instead of a busboy in a noisy restaurant. In short, while costs are increasing for college students, thanks to the cyber-economy and the unique skill set college students have, opportunities are also.
