'Scuba Diving', has nowadays become one of the most favored pass-time of the masses. People who have an eye for adventure prefer this sport or activity, as one may call it, because of the various thrills that it has to offer. The enthralling collection of marine life which is sheltered by about two-thirds of the water on earth's surface makes it up for a diver's delight. In fact, the scene is very spell-binding and any person would be delighted to take a dip into the 'water world of mother earth’. Scuba diving has become a very sought after activity favored by one and all, and this has helped in many places being turned into diving hot spots, which include, 'The Caribbean', 'South East-Asia' etc. Diving for fun is normally pursued in the oceans or in the seas. This is because of the absolutely wonderful coral draw-up on the ocean floor, the esoteric fascination of the “under water caverns” and the ‘trenches’, that till date, we have only read about in novels describing Mother Nature at its best. Most of us probably haven't ever given a thought about how it will be to dive in the open water bodies cuddled up in locations which are far above the sea level. People who have professionally pursued diving for a long time and have taken up the task of pursuing this freshwater sport can confirm its “challenging profile”. But they also have had many memorable experiences down under. How it feels while diving? The diving 'freshwater' hot-spots favored by many divers are generally at 'high altitudes’ and do not have much depth as compared to their 'saltwater' counterparts. The low 'visibility conditions' of a lake and 'chilly thermo clines' make freshwater diving a challenging sport. In 'temperate' regions, 'thermo cline levels' are very deep during summers, particularly between the hot surface and the cold bottom. Cold water hardly comes up to the surface, so generally there is very little oxygen down under as the marine organisms use up the gas among them. Even if diving has so many challenges, the rewards that it has to offer to the divers make up for them. Equipment and Precautions. There is no special equipment or device which one can take along to counter the challenging conditions. However, there are certain things which make the trip 'smooth' and 'comfortable'. One shouldn't dive in a 'shorty' as there is the risk of developing “hypothermia”. A full suit of proper 'thickness' is required to counter the cold depths. Proper headgear and light equipment is required. Extra oxygen cylinders for supply of proper breathing. Hand gloves and boots for extra protection. Also one should bring along devices to aid in low visibility conditions.
