Dressing up can be fun for all women, no matter what size they are. Large women who wear plus size clothes are no exception. They can dress up for a variety of occasions, including business, casual or formal ones. An excellent way to do this is to to accent a slacks, skirt or dress outfit with a color-coordinated jacket, cut to enhance a person's individual figure.

The first thing to consider is the cut of the jacket. Plus size women should avoid jackets that have a short, boxy cut. Instead opt for longer jackets that skim the hips. Slight padding in the shoulder of the jacket helps to balance plus size figures, while adding dimension to the jacket.

Plus size women who have a straight 'up and down' physique, might prefer suits with straight lines. Search for longer jackets that have sharp lapels and are not too cinched at the waist. Plus size women with curvy physiques should wear shorter jackets with rounded lines, curved lapel and a fitted waist. A cinched jacket will accentuate the waist and minimize the stomach.

When choosing a jacket, be sure that it falls in the proper spot on your body that is most flattering for you. For example, larger busted women will want to avoid jackets with pockets located on the bust line. Simple cut jackets with a tapered waist are the most flattering for this body type.

Plus size women who have a larger bottom section and a small bust will find that longer jackets that just skim the hips will flatter their body shape the most. Avoiding jackets that stop at the hip will avoid drawing attention to the area that you are trying to camouflage.

Developing a look of proportion is of great importance. For example, a long jacket that makes a 5'6" woman look taller can have the opposite effect on someone less than 5 feet tall. Observe the following tips to help select the right length plus size jacket.

Make sure that your jacket does not end at your broadest area. The hem should fall either above or below that point. If your jacket is longer, your pants or skirt should have a slimmer cut. You will enhance your look if the proportions are one-third to two-thirds. For example, pair a longer skirt or pants with a shorter jacket and shorter skirts look best with longer jackets.

Want to add flair to your plus sized jacket? One word. Scarves! A long scarf draped over the jacket will elongate your figure making you look fabulous.
