What any one business implements in their POS system will be dependant on what types of transactions are taking place there.

In the end however, all POS systems are designed to accomplish the same tasks. Those are to facilitate smooth trouble free transactions, conduct real time accounting while at the same time eliminating the opportunity for theft or fraud by either the customer or the employee conducting the transaction.
