Mozilla Firefox, the open source substitute for Internet Explorer is gaining popularity. The Internet Explorer is loosing grounds and the Mozilla Firefox is gaining market share gradually. The Internet Explorer was reigning the market but came 2004 and Mozilla Firefox was launched. The advent of Firefox freed the users from the chaotic experience of surfing many sites at a time. It introduced the consumers with a neat experience of TABS, opening many sites at a time and viewing them simultaneously. This neat and friendly experience attracted the users and made it popular very early. People liked the concept and soon adapted it. What Microsoft has offered in Internet Explorer 7, Mozilla offered it very early. Its popularity and market gain is increasing at breakneck pace. The reports from the back dates of its launch reveal that Mozilla authorities have to work hard in the direction to save their download servers from crash. Firefox might still not garner as good a market share as the internet explorer but is fast catching up and When launched it gained popularity due to the tabbing experience of browsing, but now the focus has shifted to many other factors. The shift is from the ease of experience to security factor. The Internet Explorer (as like Windows) is much vulnerable to hacker attacks and malicious users. But Mozilla has more security features integrated with it. The experts here also share the same thought; the more popular is the target, the more it becomes vulnerable to attacks and the eye candy of all the attackers. This is an ironical situation according to some reviewers. The other pleasing factor that enhances the browsing experience is the pop up blocker. It blocks the pop up but gives an option to look them if one really wishes to. The analysts do not term it as a cut throat competitor for Internet Explorer only, but its popularity has also targeted Safari and Opera also. It is slowly and gradually taking the market away from these browsers. The increasing popularity is not rising at such a faster pace that it has totally wiped away the Internet Explorer’s share. The drags are there in the market share but they are not that alarming. Till 2007 also, Internet Explorer was enjoying a maximum market share (hopes are there it will increase further with Internet Explorer 7), the reports reveal these statistics. The current statistic expose that January 2008 was the first month in so many years that about 35% users who visited the sites used Mozilla Firefox. Surely a clear growth indicator. But till now, its market share is as good as 17%. The speculations are there the easy experience without the intervention of unwanted distractions like pop ups will hike its growth ratio. But the ongoing debate is still at its position,” Will Mozilla able to hit the success of Internet Explorer? Will it rein the market? Will it be able to enjoy the monopoly of 51% ever?” The answers are pending and will be given when the real picture will be painted.
