How To Make Email Address

Author:  Sveinung Skoglund   2007-11-20  Word Count: 416  Category: Communications  Print  Copy

One of the first things that new internet users need to do is to figure out how to come up with an email address. This is just like your home address in that it helps get mail routed to you. Having an email address will let you get messages from family and friends, as well as videos and digital pictures. It will also let you get coupons and ads for products.
Picking a company is the first step to creating your email address. The most common companies for email are Yahoo, Gmail, and Hotmail. Just search for them online. Another way to get an email address is to use one that your internet service provider gives you. If you give them a call, they can take you through the process of setting it up.
If you've decided that you would like to get email through a company online, such as Yahoo, you will first need to get to their webpage. Type the name of the email company into a search browser to find their webpage. They will most likely have something to click on that will say "set up a new account" or "sign up" or "get email". Click on that to proceed.
You will be asked a few basic questions about yourself. Try giving only a few select pieces of information if you are worried about privacy. Another alternative is to use a made up name, but then it might be harder for people to locate you. On the web form, the boxes that need to be completed are usually marked with a star or something. Completing other information is optional.
You'll also get to pick your own email address. This works just like your street address and allows people to contact you online, or even to send you pictures. Choose an address that is easy for you to remember and that other people will recognize as being you. One possible option would be to use some combination of your names. If your name is John A. Smith, for example, you might pick jsmith, jasmith, or johns to be your email address.
You may find that someone has already chosen the email address you would like to use. If this happens, you can make a similar email address by placing a number after your original address. For example, if your original email address was mjones you could use mjones405. Chose a number that is easy to remember, such as your street address.
