One of the few places left where an entrepreneur can easily build a passive income is by starting an online home business. Online businesses work for you 24/7 generating money, and leads from a global audience. You don't have to be an internet geek to get one up and running. You just need to have a plan, and do something everyday, to take you through that plan. The first step is to set up a website, and develop a list of contacts to sell your product, service, or information to. You can set up direct sales of a product, a service, or information. The main component of your online business that will make money is your customer list. You can create an immediate significant cash flow for your business with a good list. How do you get a good list? There are unlimited ways to develop one. Here are a couple of the ideas to entice the visitor to opt-in to your list. 1. Offer them something free. This is probably one of the most widely used practices. You can give away a report, white paper, sample, or trial offer. The customer must supply their contact information to get the “freemium”. 2. Write an article that compels people to opt-in. Have them join the list for part two of the article or to get a more in depth version of the article. Now you have a product or service for your home business, you have set up a website for direct sales, you have promoted the site to generate traffic and you have gathered a list of interested prospects. This is where a lot of online marketers make a mistake. They do not understand a list is a marketing tool. It is a way to give your product or service exposure. You must build a relationship with your list before you sell them. An email campaign is the easiest way to do this. A series of targeted emails builds a personal relationship. A relationship builds trust. People buy from people they trust. But making the initial sale is just the beginning. There are two more ways, at this point, to add more direct sales. You must have a system in place that converts more browsers into customers. You want a larger number of visitors who become paying customers. You can offer discounts to entice new clients, or adjust your offers to include extras for first time buyers. The second, and probably most important, thing at this point is to sell more to existing customers. You don't want to make one sale, you want to make money with multiple sales, or “backend” offers. You need multiple offers. This could be more information or an upgrade to their service. You can increase the amount of profit per customer by selling them multiple products or services. Residual offers are another way to make money. The existing customer pays you for the same thing over and over. Yes, you heard that right. You might put out a newsletter or ezine promoting your business that your customers would subscribe to. To sum it all up... The website for your home business needs to generate endless targeted prospects for your list. These prospects need to be converted to customers by building a relationship with trust. Then get more of your subscribers and visitors to buy from you again and again to generate a passive income.
