If you want to work in London and you don't already live there, you might have a difficult time getting hired. However, it's not impossible to get a great job there by following some simple tips. First, your CV is one of the most important things you can have. Think of it as a passport that you need to have to qualify for an interview. It might not get you hired, but you won't get an interview without it. You probably will also have to show your transcripts. Your prospective employer will want to know about the academic abilities that you have. That same employer will also want to see your skills in action, so expect to be tested at some point during the process of being interviewed – which is usually a two-stage process. You might be able to be interviewed via videoconference by a big firm. For smaller ones, you'll have to go to London. If you really want to come to London, it's not just a job that you'll need. You'll also have to find a place to stay and you probably want to make some friends. Joining clubs and getting involved in activities that you really enjoy will help you meet people and will let you do something outside of work. Expect to start work a little later than you would in the US and some other countries, and expect to not have lunch until around one in the afternoon. There will be some culture shock, but you can get through it if you don't take everything personally and if you're willing to learn. If you aren't accepting of change and of other people, you'll have a hard time no matter where you move to. Those who have worked in London say that things are much more easygoing there than they are in many other countries.
