Epson Stylus Dx6000 Review

Author:  James Tobias   2008-02-21  Word Count: 509  Category: Hardware  Print  Copy

Background
The Epson Stylus DX6000 occupies an upper market placement when it comes to all-in-one printers because of the range of features it has to offer and the quality and sharpness of the prints that emerge from it, even when no computer is connected to the unit. Using the trademark DuraBrite technology, the Stylus DX6000 is a good choice for any small to medium sized business with moderate printing needs on a day to day basis, or as a top end model for household printing such as university assignments, party invitations or monthly budgets.

Key Features
One of the more prominent things to notice about the DX6000 is that it doesn't need to be attached to a particular computer or have access to a hard drive in order to print. As a result of its inbuilt print memory, you can scan, copy or print documents without being near a computer which allows for use in remote locations or for urgent print jobs where time is of the essence. Whilst this is probably a little too intense for your household requirements, this kind of printer does feel more suited to the small office or as part of a wider printer network in the work arena.

Likewise the slender silver design disguises what is essentially quite a big unit, but makes it ideal for client facing small business use, such as reception printing, or for a dedicated printer for management needs or letters. Whilst it is quite bulky, it does manage to pack a punch as far as the copying and scanning features are concerned, which can also be used in black or in colour as the particular situation demands.

Choose The Epson Stylus DX6000 If...
If you have varied needs for printing and require power beyond the traditional entry level markets this one's for you. Printing time is negligible, and quality is more than satisfactory across image reproduction and letter printing. Similarly the inbuilt features allowing remote access are almost designed for business use, which can prove invaluable in pressure situations as a back up to a printer network or as a dedicated individual office printer.

Not For You If...
Household printing jobs can be easily handled by the DX6000, but it is probably a little too bulky and powerful for most home printing needs. Probably more suited to the work environment, although there's nothing stopping the occasional printer from splashing out on a model of this size.

Conclusions
The Epson Stylus DX6000 handles itself quite well, and provides quick and easy copying, scanning and printing for the business or home user. It's probably too large to fit well within your home, although it does handle all manner of print jobs quickly and efficiently. Again it's not best for high-end graphic design printing, but for day to day business use it is probably one of the better models in its price range, particularly given the value-added features of remote printing and copying on demand across both black and colour ink.
