Generally employed prior to an election to increase a candidate's popularity, the technique can also be a cause for criticism, and mud slinging. This phenomena can be witnessed in many high schools, where flip floppers are viewed with a great deal of hostility, due to their wishy-washy nature. Put another way, a flip flopper is an individual who doesn't know who they are, so they try to subscribe to multipe stereotypes.

If you're planning to take the old big rig out for a spin anytime in the near future, you might benefit from knowing some CB flip flop slang. In trucker terminology, the flip flop is the return trip. It can also mean that you're about to pull a U-turn. So if you hear someone drop the term flip flop, don't automatically assume they're talking about the flimsy footwear we all adore so much.
