Designer Sunglasses - Do They Have An Edge Over Other Sunglasses?

Ever walked down the street looking at the different kinds of sunglasses people wear? You come to realise that there is an astonishing and vast array of different shapes and sizes out there. These may range from the classic and often expensive “height of fashion” sunglasses made by some of the biggest names in fashion to the inexpensive and non-descript frames that are more commonly found. At some stage you have to wonder whether those more expensive frames are really worth the price. To get a clear and informed answer on the topic, we’ll have to look at three basic concepts inherent to all sunglasses: shape, function and quality.
Shape
This is the primary reason for buying sunglasses as we seek something that will represent us in character and aspiration. Some might prefer the “monster” look, others the “intelligent” look. Then there’s of course the ‘80s motorcycle cop look and the terminator look. The desired shape of our sunglasses is determined by a part of our psyche.

Whether those less expensive shapes have an edge over the designer sunglasses is hard to say. That is, if you don’t care about fashion. When considering fashionable shapes and trends, you come to realise that there is indeed a matter of importance associated with the shape of the frames. It often attributes to a youthful exterior regardless of age and shows a certain measure of connection with the happenings of the modern world.

That being said, the verdict is “Yes, shape counts!”
Function
The function of sunglasses, especially from a fashion point of view, becomes an often controversial one. Are they there only to protect our eyes from glares and bright light or do they serve an additional function by correlating with our attire, our personalities?

One has to admit that the days of merely functional sunglasses that protect our eyes against UV rays and sharp light are over. Nowadays all sunglasses serve an additional purpose whether we know it or not. And in the case of designer sunglasses, that purpose is elevated to match the wearer’s élan and creative spirit.
Quality
Quality is an issue easily argued in favour of designer sunglasses without any specific biasness towards those available at gas stations and drug stores. The simple fact of the matter is and this has been tried and tested by so many thousands of individuals around the world. That, designer sunglasses are often of a much higher quality and will last much longer.

It is after all, evident in the price paid for the sunglasses and is also in the assurance of quality by the specific fashion house. Be it Armani, Gucci or D&G. And should neither of those testify as to the superior quality, then one only need to ask any of the thousands of young individuals wearing these designer frames. It’s a fact!

So, thinking about it that way, you’ll need to ask yourself one last thing: which is the better investment? Something of a higher quality and a slightly higher price tag? Or something that might be cheaper, but will probably not last as long, prompting the need for a second, perhaps even third pair? You decide.
