Colon pain should never be ignored. Although you may sometimes experience pain for a minor reason, the pain can also be the harbinger of something being seriously wrong. There are many different conditions which can cause colon pain, including colon infections, constipation, and colon cancers. If you are suffering from a pain in your abdomen which won't go away, have it checked out by your doctor as soon as possible. Abdominal pain, including colon pain, can be difficult to diagnose. Make time to note all your symptoms in order to get to the root of the problem. If you have fever and fatigue along with colon pain, it is likely an infection. Your doctor will prescribe medication to combat the infection along with your getting plenty of rest and fluids. A very common cause of abdominal pain is heartburn, otherwise known as an ulcer. Antacids will generally alleviate the immediate pain. To avoid heartburn in the future, you should eat smaller meals as well as ask your doctor to quiz you about your eating habits to make sure you have a balanced diet. Ulcers can also be brought about by high, sustained levels of stress. Prolonged periods of stress can lead to irritable bowel syndrome, also known as spastic colon. This type of colon pain occurs when the colon contracts too quickly or to slowly, the result of which is highly irregular bowel movements. A high fiber diet and stress reduction through rigorous exercise will help alleviate this problem. If you haven't defecated in quite a while and you have long lasting pain in your colon, it is probably due to constipation. That is a condition which is not difficult to treat. The answer is to take a laxative, eat a high fiber diet, and drink lots of liquids. Together, they will cause the colon to function more normally, and will thus alleviate the pain and discomfort due to irregularity. There are those who believe that some problems associated with colon pain can be avoided by the use of colon cleansing. Benefits are said to include reduction of toxin levels in the body, increasing energy and improvement in general health. Little cannot be solved, on a daily basis, with the use of a diet that is fiber rich, with plenty of fluids. These can help the body to use its natural ability of eliminating both waste and bacteria. A lengthy colon cleanse program may cause dehydration, anemia and/or malnutrition.
