All over the internet you will hear about how great it is to have your own home business and all of the benefits that come from having one. You will hear about the amazing opportunities that are available and how easy it is to succeed. While most of this is true, it can be a difficult transition for some to go from a structured job to a loose business at home. One of the most difficult transitions for people to make is the amount of freedom they are given. When you have a home business, there is nobody there to tell you what to do and when to do it. It can be easy to say you are going to work in an hour, and once that hour comes you say the same thing. Next thing you know the day has gone by and you have only gotten an hour of work in. If you are going to work at home, it is essential you set yourself a schedule of when you are going to work. You can still benefit from being able to work whatever hours you want, but you must give yourself a schedule of when you are going to work. Another problem people have is finding a place to work. Far too many people try to work from their kitchen table, or even worse from the couch in their living room. This leads to many distractions such as the television, the kitchen for food, and potentially the dog or kids to play with. When having a home business, build yourself an office that you can work out of. It makes it far easier to avoid the distractions and actually get work done. In addition to not having a set schedule, you also do not have a set plan of when you need to accomplish certain tasks. This can lead to you taking your time and gradually accomplishing little things. This is fine if your goal is to be successful in ten years. Otherwise, give yourself a list of goals and when you would like to accomplish them so you have something to stay motivated and work toward. Lastly, it can be difficult for the family to understand that your job is not at home. You have to make it clear that having a home business means you need to work while you are within your scheduled hours. This means you cannot run to the grocery store to pick up some items, take the kids to school, or pick up the dry-cleaning. When you are at work, you are at work. This can help you avoid distractions from the family and actually get your work done.
