When having a home business, build yourself an office that you can work out of. It makes it far easier to avoid the distractions and actually get work done.

In addition to not having a set schedule, you also do not have a set plan of when you need to accomplish certain tasks. This can lead to you taking your time and gradually accomplishing little things. This is fine if your goal is to be successful in ten years. Otherwise, give yourself a list of goals and when you would like to accomplish them so you have something to stay motivated and work toward.

Lastly, it can be difficult for the family to understand that your job is not at home. You have to make it clear that having a home business means you need to work while you are within your scheduled hours. This means you cannot run to the grocery store to pick up some items, take the kids to school, or pick up the dry-cleaning. When you are at work, you are at work. This can help you avoid distractions from the family and actually get your work done.
