This month saw the start of taping for the fifth season of One Tree Hill. In May, the show was renewed for yet another season, however, it will only return next year as a midseason replacement. The first four seasons featured the lives of the characters as they went through high school and this time, the fifth season will flash forward four years into the future. So the next time fans take a look at the fresh new season of One Tree Hill, the characters will no longer be in school, instead they'll be leading post-college lives and dealing with more mature issues. The fourth season did end as if it was the last, but the unexpected renewal led the producers to reinvent and make another good ending for the characters in the next season. Season four's highlights include Haley James Scott's (Bethany Joy Galeotti) pregnancy, and the season finale gave a peek at Haley's giving birth to her first child with Nathan Scott (James Lafferty), a baby boy named James. Because of this little addition to the cast, next season's storyline will focus a little bit on James, who will be at the time almost five years old. Add up a beautiful nanny called Carrie, who may cause a little trouble in the Scott household. Chad Michael Murray said in a conversation with the French blog site, Allocine Blogs, that his character, Lucas Scott, will appear as a semi-successful writer who is in the process of writing his second book. Lucas will later become the Tree Hill Ravens' new coach and serve as a mentor and friend to a troubled 18-year-old. Hilarie Burton, who plays Peyton Sawyer in One Tree Hill, said in a conversation with the North Carolina Daily News that she hopes to develop her character into a more aggressive individual, thus leaving behind her "good girl" image. "I feel like aggression needs to be a mood that we see from Peyton Sawyer. And those parts are always more fun to play anyway," she said. Michael Ausiello of TVGuide also reported that new characters will definitely be introduced in the next season. Among them are a new Ravens player who will start a conflict with Lucas, a New York book editor who has difficulty balancing his personal and professional life and a manipulative business executive.
